Australia was actually supposed to do even better at world level by 2017. They were very promising at 2006 world cup. The demographic change in Australia in last 20 years has resulted in millions of immigtants from countries (Arab. Korea, china, Turkey, Italy, uk, Ireland, greece, former Yugoslavian countries) which are proper footballing nations. The kids of immigrant families no longer consider rugby cricket as numero uno sport while growing up and we expected a football revolution in Australia 10 Years back. immigration helped swiss reach great heights in football. That article was interesting as it expressed challenges as well as mistakes by Aussie federation. Less opportunities for players and it's comparison with ISL is interesting and debatable. They are also playing more competitive football as part of Asia then before.
I agree with gaffertape. At the time it was considered revolutionary but now it has proven to be rubbish. He wasn't a fraud but he was certainly out of his depth from what I read and talked about with some mates of mine from Australia. Now they are trying to fix the damage done and it will take some time but things are looking up slowly. Just because a team made out of rich white kids didn't do well in the U17s doesn't mean they are that bad.
Also who said they should have been even better by now? Arguably they are, they just won an Asian Cup with an Australian head coach and had a team win the AFC Champions League three years ago... we would die for that in India. They have plenty of promising youth players who are slowly being swayed away from China and the Gulf countries (another problem as they would be taken in by the money instead of trying their hand at Europe) and the A-League is generally getter better and is rebranding and getting a new TV deal. The FFA are not the smartest and honestly should expand at least for 2018-19 but that isn't a slate on the league.

Internet Desk: After all the drama and discussions, Kingfisher East Bengal and Mohun Bagan officials are at last getting prepared to join the all important meeting at Kuala Lumpur on 7th June. In their last meeting with the IFA on Saturday, the Kolkata giants threatened to boycott the meeting by claiming the irrelevance of the presence of the stakeholders in the meeting which could decide the road-map of Indian football.
In an interaction with www.xtratime.in , East Bengal Assistant Secretary Shanti Ranjan Dasgupta said, “We have applied for the visa to go Kuala Lumpur. Mohun Bagan too are applying for it. We have decided to go there.”
Though the Kolkata outfits didn’t submit the ISL bid papers and very much in doubts to play the ISL this season. The Kolkata giants are still stubborn on their stand on not to pay any appearance fee and also on their decision of not playing their matches outside Kolkata.
On the other hand, when asked about whether he will be attending the Aizawl FC meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Aizawl FC President Robert Royte said, “I am planning to go there. Both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan may boycott the meeting, but Aizawl FC is very much going to be present there.”
“I want all I-league clubs to get united. Everyone should be given proper justice in the proposed merger”, is what he feels.
Where does it say that? This is an example of you posting an article about something you don't know anything about? Do you even follow Australian soccer? Do you regularly watch the A-League? The various National Premier Leagues? The youth leagues? Do you discuss the sport on Aussie soccer forums? I doubt it completely but one article which isn't even directly critical of the A-League and all of a sudden you think "Same thing will happens with us if we will just focus on ISL and not on league below it". Piss off Ashish. Another straw picked example because you don't like the ISL and another example of trying to take a league that is still young, in a country where it is the 4th or even 5th most popular sport, and use it as an example of why a franchise type league won't work. No My brother its only your right to watch Australian Soccer , A -League and Various National Premier League and The Youth Leagues and to discuss the sport on Aussie Soccer Forums or to make Aussie friends because You are Super Man Who Lives in US knows in and out of Football in USA as you born there , You know what going to happens in Indian Football as you have roots in India and You know what is going on in Europe because you have been there regularly . Following AIFF President's reply, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal officials to attend AFC meeting

The All Indian Football Federation (AIFF) President Praful Patel has replied to the letter sent by Indian Football Association (IFA) Secretary Utpal Ganguli on Thursday.
Writing on behalf of the 'big two' Kolkata clubs (Mohun Bagan and East Bengal), Ganguli raised the issue of the AIFF President failing to honour his promise of delivering a revised roadmap for the future of Indian football by 25th May, which incidentally was also the deadline for the submission of bid documents for the upcomng edition of the Indian Super League (ISL).
Officials of both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal vehemently opposed the idea of joining ISL, alleging that there was no clarity with respect to the status of I-League and ISL and questioned the meeting scheduled in Malaysia on June 7th with various stakeholders including AFC. However, Praful Patel reverted back to the IFA Secretary with respect to the letter sent on Monday.
Ganguli revealed to Goal, "Yes he has replied today. We (IFA and the Kolkata clubs) will meet in the next two-three days to discuss the contents of the reply."
He added, "He (Patel) has responded to the points I had raised in it. We have to discuss with the clubs and then decide what is to be done further. He also requested me to persuade the clubs to attend the meeting and put their points of view across. He has also assured that if need be, he will certainly meet the clubs again."
With just a week remaining for the all-important meeting for the future of Indian football, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal officials have already applied for their Malaysian visas and are now expected to attend the meeting in Kuala Lumpur after evaluating Patel's reply.
The meeting, mooted by Praful Patel during the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) General Secretary Dato Windsor's visit to New Delhi on 24th May, will be chaired by the AFC supremo himself.

His copy paste model and typical Dutch beliefs are not suited for countries where football isn't the #1 sport
