Not the best plan, but might work just fine. I see it working. Both the leagues will be going on parallel. Lakshya was good. A proper football plan. But, it was expensive to implement from what I understand and AIFF lacked heart to implement it. As for the franchise fee, MB and EB will not be playing in ISL. They will play in League 2. The winner of the ISL gets to AFC champions league qualification. If they qualify, top 2 winners of Super cup go to AFC cup. If they fail to qualify, ISL winner+SuperCup winner go to AFC cup. Good Plan IMO. Will work just fine. The reason there is no relegation between first and second division is that there is franchise fee in first division. Its only for the teams that are financially rich, have the heart and will to spend and want big cash and popularity in return with football. I can see the games going to weekend only in the future with the super cup going on simultaneously with the main leagues and the top division aka ISL having no franchise fee. This only happens when we have decent football organizing structure with wide fan base and good economics. Lets hope for the best. I hope both leagues get good promotion and marketing. Excited!
This actually does seem promising. For a beginning, this is not bad and lets be honest with ourselves, we needed a new beginning. I honestly don't understand all this complaining and confusion. I saw a post about how the NFL happened and then redone I-League and now this will probably fail etc. The ISL is backed a lot stronger than I-League ever was (don't lie and say it wasn't) and now we are going from having an I-League and a somewhat 1-2 month 2nd Division from 2008 to 3 full tiers come 2018 and with hopefully more participation from around the country.
Also the Indian Super Cup is a bit of a cringe name but the format is dope.
@AKB Did I say you said that? It was in the article.
@sanvedjadhav This is not illegal by FIFA standards. They don't prefer this though but throw enough money their way and they will look in a different direction.
@gaffertape I want to challenge that post filled with despair but since you are so close to the situation, I would probably look the fool I am.
@munna219777 What do you expect? This league will go from September to March apparently at first so don't expect to much from Asian competition at first, this is only the beginning anyway. They also have now two full seasons to be "recognized". Also, what is with this oldies thing? The best player in the ISL was a 23 year old Colombian who was signed to a Brazilian Serie A side and now doing well okay in MLS. Other top foreign players have been young and the older guys in ISL like Elano, Garcia, and Postiga are good and have proven post their ISL stints how good they can be (Garcia and Postiga mainly). You act as if these guys are in wheelchairs.
@reddevil87 They have a couple years to see how this whole thing goes. Not everything needs to be solved right now. Expect a lot more tweaking and changes between now and even January 2017!
AIFF preferred the 2 new teams to be Bengaluru FC and 1 team from Kolkata (Either MB or EB). Now, because of the rift which would be created by 1 kolkata team playing in second division, they suggested one of them to merge with ATK which none of them would do in their lives. So, both of them go to to League 2. Nice politics. I think Bengaluru FC will be there. EB and MB will retaliate as to why Bengaluru FC was allowed. FSDL will say that you were given the option. You didn't accept it. So, don't cringe about it. MB and EB will say that why weren't Bengaluru FC recommended to merge. FSDL in return, "BINGO, no Bengaluru Franchise in ISL".
Yep and it was honestly fun. Legends of Indian football's past have made their debuts in the tournament, such as Saikat Saha Roy
But seriously, it will be interesting to see how East Bengal and Mohun Bagan turn out. Easily would be best for them to be in ISL over Atletico de Kolkata.
So we will have ISL tier 1 league from September to March which will have two new teams Atletico de Bagan or Real Bengal or Bengaluru FC or new Bangalore franchise. no relegation or promotion winner gos to ACL play off. then we will have new rebranded I-League called Indian League one(2nd tier) with all I league teams which will have pro/rel then we will have rebranded I league 2nd division called Indian League Two (3rd tier) which will have 2nd division teams then we will have state leagues (4th tier). then we will have rebranded Federation cup called Indian Super Cup whos winner win play AFC Cup. so after NFL era,I-league era,ISL era the 4th era starts of Indian football.
Some plan is better than no plan but there are alot of questions to be answered.
1. Which are the two teams that will be given entry into the tier 1 league? BFC do have what it takes to "make the cut" but will nita aunty consider BFC after junior jindal's twitter rants?
2.Do we got enough pool of players to run all the divisions simultaneously? How long they are going to run the tier 1 league without relegation?
3. How long they are going to run the tier 1 league without relegation?
I have a couple of queries 1) Do we really have enough professional footballers to sustain three nation wide leagues at the same time? 2) How logical is to pit 4 league-1 clubs against the ISL teams? Obviously the best of the lot will be playing in ISL instead of the lower leagues. Our clubs are still not equipped to put up a fight with homegrown talents; which happens in England. 3) ISL not having relegation will mean there is no promotion for league 1. Then why will the clubs fight for winning the league? They can aim for 4th position and participate in the Super cup.
The AIFF vice-president and owner of Shillong Lajong, Larsing Ming, told The Hinduthat he was happy with the comprehensive roadmap.
“For the first time Indian football has a long-term roadmap. There is a promise and if followed properly it will help Indian football,” he said.
The AIFF is expected to offer heavy financial assistance to the clubs in League 1 and 2, while the ISL clubs will get a larger share from the tournament’s central revenue pool.
