All hear are obsesed for the pan-india league or what ever. Then what the hell arrows doing in i-league blocking a spot?

  • shankarshankar 2600 Points

orissa had a team samaleshwari in last season 2nd div, AP is having internal issues in their state football so aiff wont allow any club to participate in the league... actually quartz are originally from hyderabad...

TN has all PSU teams in top div with 1-2 new corporate clubs coming recent years and jk is the only other team where i-league or 2nd div football is a hopefull scope

rest states are almost non existent as far as its influence on football goes... may be some are waking up just lately like jaipur fc from rajashtan, indore club from MP i think are only few exception but got long way to get entry to 2nd div yet
  • It is important for the club to get name right. Start with the name of the city so that people can identify themselves as "APNA" club.

  • Why not ban them now. Why even need a 2nd Division? Its not even a league. Its a 2-3 month tournament where the amateur clubs play the semi-amateur clubs. There is no point to that. There is no room left for more Goan or Bengali teams.

Again, and I will continue to say this, why dont the AIFF do relegation for this season but for only the teams that fail the AFC Licensing criteria (Basically Air India and ONGC) and then mark down the cities which they want to place a club in. Create a goal, like Japan did. Lets try and introduce 2 new cities to the I-League every 2-3 years. Also look at the presently operating clubs. Have them corporate with the AIFF in the hope that club could represent the new city.

Have the AIFF also create a new club criteria which must be followed first by the current I-League clubs (modern website, no company names, generic names like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are fine but Kingfisher and McDowels would have to find another way to get their name spread through the respective clubs, proper management team, proper player roster, pass the AFC Club Criteria etc) and then help the non I-League club with that.

Its a slow process but I think can work.
  • Even Pailan Arrows I think do not satisfy AFC criteria. Then Goa clubs are all family owned-corporate responsibility clubs. how many are remaining now? Pune FC, Mumbai FC, Shillong Lajong, United Sikkim, Mohun bagan, East Bengal,

Yes slowly we should improve infrastructure and move towards MLS/J-League direction.

  • Sorry, let me be more clear in terms of AFC Club Licensing Criteria. We all know that NO I-League club fully passes. And that is okay. I know clubs in the J.League for example who fail some criteria. I think a certain percentage needs to be reached. Now I would need to review the full criteria again before suggesting a cut-off which can be added to the I-League this season...

"If an I-League club fails to pass [Insert Percentage here]% of the AFC Club Licensing Criteria then they will get automatic relegation despite their position in the table."

The J.League is actually doing that for teams in there 2nd Division for next season. If a club does not pass the full J.League licensing criteria then they are relegated automatically. The K-League did that this season with Sangju Sangmu Phoenix who were automatically relegated for not being a professional club.

Steps like these need to be taken before we can think of increasing the number of teams or having a 2nd Division.

Also, going back to the I-League AFC Club Licensing Criteria, I think we need to make set goals for certain clubs. "If an I-League club has been in the I-League for at least 3 seasons then they should pass 60% of the AFC Club Licensing criteria". and then make it higher... "If an I-League club has been in the I-League for 5 years then they should pass 75% of the AFC Club Licensing Criteria." and higher... "If an I-League club has been in the I-League for at least 8 seasons then they should pass 90% of the AFC Club Criteria."

Then do the same for new clubs as well. So say for the 2013-14 season you would need the following in terms of criteria to join the league... "If the club can pass the 60% mark in AFC Club Licensing Criteria they can have entry into the I-League." Then as the league gets better in quality we can demand more from not only the current clubs but also for new clubs looking for entry into the league.

Then maybe after a few years and the I-League has reached 18 clubs (around 2020) we can see the introduction of a 2nd Division. 2 teams are relegated while 6 new teams form an 8 team 2nd Division. And so on and so on. Like Japan did.

and to get their name from other way is impossible i doubt if  ub group have major sales in those region. but just coz of traditionala football hub they are continuing with these clubs.

So from what your saying its because of tradition. Same in Japan before the professional era of the J.League. Company clubs galor. Toyota FC etc. Now they have scrapped that. Why are we forced to believe that can not change. Specially with the new breed of clubs coming up like South United, Delhi United, Kohima Komets, Aizawl, United Sikkim, Pune, Mumbai, Shillong Lajong, Sporting Goa (1999), Quartz SC Calicut etc.

It may be tradition but slowly its changing.

AFC team satisfied with Goan I-league clubs

lot of people myth that dempo and salgaocar is psu they are not not they are dempo sc sponsored by dempo group of companies and salgaocar group of companies respectively

I dont see the need for that. We already know that the Goan clubs pass almost all of the AFC Criteria but at the same time I believe crowd (based off of payed tickets) is a factor.

    > fact remain i league will never be pan india league get that correct in practicallity its difficult. yes Indian football pyramid will be pan India in future. but top most league will never.

politicals issues no state association will like to loose their clubs that why bengal fa refused for 5 club policy and that got scraped.
second india is big country and not like usa where population is less being big country so you cannot just have one  club per state. it will be like monopoly or boring ranji trophy.

just let go how things happening brign 2nd division parrellel to 1st division that it and as what aiff decide just banned clubs which dont follow afc quidlines

I somewhat agree. I agree we will never be fully pan-Indian. No league in the world is fully pan-Indian. Look at MLS, we are missing the entire South-East of the country. Australia's A-League is stations South-East. J.League is all south. Premier League is missing Southern teams.

I disagree on the 2nd Division. Mainly because the money is not there to do so and also we should not have one in the first place.

    > “It is very necessary to adhere to AFC criteria. All Goan clubs have fulfilled the same, except for owning stadium for which the Government is ready to extend a very big helping hand, more so that football has been declared the official game of Goa. Going by the same logic, the AIFF must also follow the AFC criteria and that’s to set up a separate entity for running the I-League. Criterias must be applicable uniformly, starting with the apex body,” pointed out Armando.

and as far as i concerned none of club in India own their stadium so that according to @munna that no clubs in Indian full fill afc criteria :P

I agree with @Ashlesh. This deal between AIFF and IMG-Reliance for 15 years will rather work against the clubs.

    1) Clubs are not being given profits from TV Coverage, sponsorships in the way it should be given. Separate entity of I-league will ensure clubs get benefit.
    2) 15 years deal is a very long time.
    3) IMG-reliance is pushing franchise concept which will not be accepted by clubs as well as fans.  Rather let your franchise compete in I-league. They want to make a short-cut IPL type tournament with benami owners and then instead of rest time-pre-season, they will make Indian players play in heat and susceptible to injuries. Clubs will earn no money from such IPL. I dont know how FIFA can support such a nonsense.

I request IMG-reliance to leave football and go to Volleyball, Hockey if you want any IPL.
