The question on all the 2nd Division Clubs minds is:

How many spots are up for grabs this year ?
The Mohun bagan disqualification hasn't helped , but the ONGC & Air India news is re-assuring.

But what if Air India & USFC finish above the relegation zone ? will 5 places open up !!

either way its looks like these teams are all waiting to hear the news from AIFF, as far as I know these teams have aplied for 2nd Division, lets see who gets accepted:

Maharashtra (4) : Dodsal FC, PIFA Colaba, Kenkre FC and DSK Shivajians(Pune)
Karnataka (3) HAL* , South United & KGF Academy
Kerela(3) : Chirag Kerela **, Quartz FC , Eagles FC
    Goa(2) Vasco SC, and SESA
North (2) Delhi United & Hindustan FC
Kolkata (5) , Mohd Sporting, Bhowanipore, Kalighat , Southern Samity & Techno Aryan
Shillong (3) Royal Wahingdoh, Rangdaijied(formerly Arhima) & Langsning FC
other Northeast (3) Green Valley Assam, Aizawl FC , Mizoram, & Nagaland team ( probably LifeSports FC)

A lot more teams have applied this year , and I haven't even included , Sambaleshwar from Orissa, Guwahati Town Club , George Telegraph who have all competed in the past few years.

Emergence of a few new teams should make this interesting , but also the gulf in teams will be exposed.

Aiff should reduce the i-league from a 14 team to a 12 team league.

Mb is allready out ban air india & ongc and religate another. Then promote 2 from 2nd div.

At preasent indian football can't sustain a 14 or more team league because of the lack of the quantity of quality players.

  • Agree. This is now our chance to do something like Japan did. Get rid of Air India and ONGC now. The competition will be 11 teams. Those 11 teams will be East Bengal, Prayag United, Pailan Arrows, Salgaocar, Dempo, Churchill Brothers, Sporting Goa, Pune FC, Mumbai FC, Shillong Lajong FC, and United Sikkim FC.

Dont do relegation for this season. Japan did not do relegation for there top teams till around 1999... the 9th year of the league. Let the current I-League clubs stay and develop. Do not relegate them. Imagine if teams like United Sikkim and Shillong Lajong get relegated. They are done! Shillong Lajong has a sponsor in Aircel, will they stay? NO. United Sikkim will lose what small sponsors they have.

Let these clubs develop for the long run until we can make a sustainable 1st and 2nd Division. As for the current 2nd Division we can just promotion and no relegation but instead of 2 teams we make it 1 team. Only promote 1 team from the 2nd Division to make it a 12 team I-League (Do what Korea did and after 22 games, split the league and play 5 extra games for 27).

Now for the 2013 I-League 2nd Division the AIFF need to closely look at the clubs and not just say "You pass basic AFC guidelines your in". A club like Mohammedan should not be in I-League, same with SESA Football ACADEMY, HAL SC, KGF Academy, Techno Aryan etc.

Make it a 6 team affair: Dodsal, South United, Delhi United, Quartz SC, Royal Wahingdoh, Random Side.

The AIFF want professionalism and a proper football league. Well in order to do that you need to not only look at the clubs qualifications but also the future. That is why I did not include Aizawl FC and a Nagaland team because they are far from ready. They don't even have proper stadiums yet!!! We need to wait and help them develop first before we go into those territories. As for the clubs I selected... I selected these ones because these ones have the assured funds to run a professional top tier club, they are in untapped locations, they have a history of helping with there communities, they pass the basic AFC rules and if they would join the I-League the transition would be hassle free. They would know what stadium to play in and how to get ready for a much longer and more expensive season.

We can then do this for the 2013-14 season. No relegation but promote 2 teams (again based on a tight 2nd Division) and keep doing it till we have 16 teams. Then we can relegate 2 of them and put them in a league with 6 other teams and form a 14 team I-League and 8 team I-League 2nd Division and slowly grow them. That is far away though. Best thing to do though is get rid of Air India and ONGC and make sure the 12th team is an already ready team.

Hmmm, that would be amazing news and finally an amazing step for them but that would probably mean the end of Mumbai FC. Mumbai can not hold 2 football teams. It barely manages to hold 1 (or 3).

Is a move likely... Mumbai FC to Nagpur would be a dream.

you can have a club run in normal way like man united and a modern money based club like man city in same city then
why not in india a mumbai fc and dodsal/ mumbai 'whatever'

I hope people do not confuse them with hockey franchises-Mumbai Marines and Mumbai Magicians (WSH and HIL) respectively.
Bombay Boys club name will be epic battle between Bombay and Mumbai.

Because unlike Manchester Mumbai is not domestic football crazy. Please be real here I mean, we saw how many people attend the Mumbai FC games or Air India games at the old Cooperage. What makes you guys think that Mumbai FC and Dodsal FC/Mumbai Tigers can do it. Mumbai Tigers/Dodsal will have big players once in I-League and money while Mumbai FC will have ND Opara and Yusif Yakubu.
