Once a local team performs, wins, plays good football support will follow.....If name was such a big deal then, Mumbai FC would have had a great support

THATS SUPPOSED TO SAY WHAT! TELL ME THIS... HOW MANY TOP LEAGUES HAVE THERE CLUBS NAMED AFTER CORPORATIONS! WHERE IS VENKEYS CHICKEN FC (BLACKBURN ROVERS), ETHIAD FC (MANCHESTER CITY), KRONKE FC (ARSENAL), AC EMIRATES (AC MILAN), FC QATARI FOUNDATION (BARCELONA)! THERE ARE NO BIG CLUBS THAT ARE NAMED LIKE THAT! THE IDEA OF THESE NAMES ARE SO STUPID AND UNNEEDED!
Also Mumbai FC has support. Last season and this season they have not even played a single game at there ground and also the Cooperage is small.
Also if I may add, look at Japan and Australia. There clubs were named like that (Nissan FC etc) and that brought there league down. Now they are back with proper clubs, clubs that cities and states can be represented by. Now look at them.
I can bet that Chirag Kerala has much more support than MFC!
There's somethings called football culture. The names help but doesn't do wonders! Making examples out of big clubs dont make any sense coz in those cases the companies get a huge boost by adhering to those clubs, however, in India do Pailan, Chirag, Dempo, etc get any boost by being in football? by owning a football club are Chirag selling more comps? So, the companies wud want things which one cant get in EPL or other big league club. In India the big challenge is to get corporates sponsor clubs, naming and everything will fall into place when other things are alright.
See the leagues which we are talking about are at places where football is a big deal, a company gains by being with a team. Here thats not the case, we need to give companies much more incentives for coming into football. Whatever companies are in football have huge contributions in keeping some stature of Indian football. Teams like Air India, JCT has long been breeding ground for younger lesser known footballers. I perfectly understand the need of renaming clubs, adhering top cities, exploiting the region-ism embedded in human mentality etc. But that should not be so strong at the moment that we forget the present condition of our football. At the end of the day, I would like to remind, its not the name that sells (only) but performance.
If that was the case why would a mediocre team called INDIA not draw enough people that a game of Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona, Brazil, Argentina etc!!!!!
If our football standards improve, if it generates revenue, if it embeds in our culture it will surely reach the standards, u are citing, that of Japan, aussie etc. Big example is MB and EB are never called MMB, KEB by there fans as these clubs have their own identity and holds there own inspite of decades of changes, then that happens to other clubs they will also overcome name changes of the companies.

I am sorry but I dont fully understand what you said but with Japan and Australia when they had these name changes football was not popular in there countries. In 1992 when the chages came in Japan it was all about Baseball and other Japanese sports. Also in Australia in 2000-2004 during there revamp it was all about Cricket and Rugby. Football was nothing till there ravamps.
Also we can offer so much more than just sponsors on the team name. I mean you could still be shirt sponsors or merchandise sponsors. Also look at United Sikkim FC and Pune FC and what they have done in terms of sponsorship. Just follow them. It is possible!
I can bet that Chirag Kerala has much more support than MFC!

sorry bro i cant understand why you dont understand what arsenal fan is saying......a club which has won most of the recent leagues, DEMPO SC which is located in goa which has good footballing culture hasnt ever witnessed a full house or even half of that ...reason people cant relate themselves with the clubs....and for every club to get the same kind of history the big two of kolkatta possess we need to wait for centuries to achieve and yet we cant assure of any positive response.....
so it is better to name the club after any location or community to get some following and keeping them at their base can improve the fan base considerably in say 10-15 years....i am sure if the clubs like mumbai fc, pune fc or shillong lajong survive a decade in top divison then they may easily get one of the best fan following in india in near future.....
I merely said naming itself is not a solution and one should give more time and energy in other aspects....Pune FC is the only club who have done so...it terms of name as well as PR they have been good.
Otherwise thinking clubs like Malabar FC or some city FC who have been hardly giving any effort (like USFC or some of the Kolkata/goa league clubs) should qualify just because they have the right name and some clubs who are doing decently should not be in the league because there name is inappropriate

Let me explain some things to you and Deb_Ban becuase I think I know why you guys disagree.
1) You guys think that if I want only State/City named clubs that would mean I dont want Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. Well that is wrong. They are an exception becuase they bring in the crowds. They have history and fans which is vital for I-League. The rest of the league though should follow names.
2) Right now the only proper clubs to me are Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Sporting Goa, Pune FC, Mumbai FC, Shillong Lajong FC, United Sikkim FC, Royal Wahingdoh FC and Churchill Brothers SC. And yes with the exception of Bagan and Bengal all the other clubs I named dont get support. Well let me tell you team by team...
- Sporting Goa: Short history but a bright future. They are marketing themselves, they are getting proper sponsors slowly, they are investing off the field slowly and they have pregame entertainment. In my opinion if they stay in the I-League for 5 years without relegration then Sporting Goa will be the most followed team in Goa.
- Pune FC: I am not explaining myself for this one
- Mumbai FC: If you look it up you would see that Mumbai FC had a great website and a youtube service. Sadely they stopped it due to them moving stadiums in the past two years and that they are renovating Mumbai Football (thanks to WIFA). They have said that they will restart the website and youtube service once the Cooperage is done and maybe by the begining of the 2012-13 season.
- Shillong Lajong FC: They are just starting. They already have a site and once they cement themselves as I-League regulars they plan to start a new website and plus they attract 10,000 fans in a different state and at there own stadium generate 30,000 fans! And trust me, 30,000 fans in a 30,000 seater stadium is better than 40,000-60,000 fans in a 120,000 seater Salt Lake Stadium.
- United Sikkim FC: Run by Baichung. Managed by a good coach. And they already started a website and youtube service. Mind you a slow one but this was the same with Pune FC and look at them today. Also USFC have a proper Facebook accout which they update daily. Plus look at the crowd they got for an amature cup match that took place on a crap stadium. Imagin the crowd then at the Paljor Stadium.
- Royal Wahingdoh FC: Same as Shillong Lajong FC except for them it will take longer as they are still in the 2nd Division.
Also tell me the attendences of established teams like Air India, Prayag United, Pailan Arrows, HAL, Chirag, Dempo, and Salgaocar. Ya, mind blowing.
Well, Arsenalfan, there is NO disagreement on having state/ city named clubs in India, where there is little support for football. In fact, this is the only way to broadbase football in India. But there are some points.
Very recently, I think just after the last Kolkata derby, you had gone on record at least in goal.com urging the Kolkata fans ‘to realize’ their mistake and merge MB & EB to form a superclub called ‘Kolkata United’ to rake up fan support in millions (you had also initiated a thread in this forum dealing with whether MB/ EB should just go and fold up). Ridiculous, because each of the three Kolkata biggies can fill up YBK many times over with ONLY their fans. Fan support was never a problem in Kolkata. Do you need to merge Arsenal, Totenham, Chelsea and form ‘London United’? Why don’t the two Manchester clubs unite or liverpool and Everton combine? Because it is futile, they are already popular. The Kolkata clubs just have to be goaded to get professionalized. By whom? The AIFF, of course.
Secondly, you fancy an obscure club ‘Delhi United’ just for the name, over say Hindustan FC (BTW, they are not owned by Hindustan Times), who have a good youth development scheme, minor sponsors. Unfortunately, they are not making much headway because the chaotic conditions in Delhi football, but their efforts are laudable. Don’t know what Delhi United is doing, apart from having their fancy name.
What Rudra pointed out so nicely is that there are more to football than just naming. Take United SC for example. They are well run, have good youth development, looking for more avenues to increase fan base. CUK also have good fan support, so have HAL. Problem is their sponsors/ owners are shit.
Playing quality football is what matters. People do support PSV Eindhoven, the office club of Philips, and in Korea and China (probably also in Japan), there are at least half a dozen company owned clubs in each league who have huge mass support, and play good football (Pohang Steelers are good, no?). The fact is they are forward looking owners who do a lot towards attaining professionalism.
corporated clubs are just not getting their main job of attracting fans with their football display in india that is the reason why we should have a new look clubs in place of teams like dempo, salgaokar who have done reasonably in playing good football but they missed the main thing about professional football of attracting fans and making their club functional only on the basis of stuffs like merchandise and ticket charges....
running a football club is not a charity thing ...all those club who run for their pride and think this as charity should shut down ...this is what is my view
