East Bengal Club roped in Daniel (Aizwal FC), Jackiechand Singh (Salgaocar FC) and T.P.Rehnesh (NEUFC). EB is looking to sign two defenders for I-League and one of them is Sandesh Jhingan. The news publised in "The Sangbad Pratidin" today.
Not sure whether the name should be Daniel or David. David Lalrinmuana of Aizawl was on the radar of East Bengal this year...didn't find anyone named Daniel in the Aizawl team...again a Pratidin report, so we have to take it with big dashes of salt...Jhingan, as the report says, has a habit of talking with the Kolkata clubs and then changing his mind at the last moment, though he seems a bit more pliable this time
After the establishment of The Club, the founders could not come to any conclusive idea on the jersey colours of the club and kept on debating on the same. One afternoon, after an extended search, one of the founders landed at the Whiteaway, Laidlaw & Co. (Kolkata), an elite departmental outlet in Chowringhee, where He found the “Red and Gold” jersey impressively hanging. Without wasting anytime, the founder just bought the jersey atRs.80/- (per piece or the entire stock is unknown to me!) … but Rs.80/- was pretty expensive in those days if you still consider that the entire jersey set were bought for Rs.80/- .
From that day in 1920, Red and Gold colour became the jersey colour and symbol of the Club.
