I do not understand this news.  Athletics Federation relying on phone Call with Father on selecting team. I understand that Gowda lives in USA but atleast talk with the Athlete or some Doctor/Physio with whom Gowda consulted regarding the injury.
There is no accountability on phone call with Father if Gowda is unfit for Olympics. Anyways we are not expecting any medal from him.
There is no Professionalism in team selection in India. Earlier fathers of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati used to come on private TV Channels News and select the Indian Team for Olympics with shouting media anchors and claim that their son will partner with whom??? Once Tennis Federation sent mother of Sania Mirza as a manager in Olympics as it was demand of Mirza otherwise she will not participate???

Guys, sorry for late post.I was not well.
Coming to the Hockey team selection. So,basically they have included 3 players other than the team which had shared. Those are Devindar,Uthappa and Surrender.

Uthappa doesn't deserve to be in this team.Enough said!!!In his place i would have chosen Amir/Lalit because they provide something different.

Surender and Jasjit was more of a Toss up .I would have chosen Jasjit because he has better stick work which is needed , specially when your defence is under pressure,in order to get a foot foul or dodge past an attacking player and create space.A also,Jasjit has more experience than Surender.

Devindar and Dharamvir was also a 50:50 call.I would have gone with Dharamvir, simply because he has more experience.

My last concern is that there is only one keeper in 16.

Overall, the team looks decent. This is our best team of the past 12 years. If all play well,we can surely challenge for the Podium  but Our Defence including Goal Keeper will have to play well and our Penalty Corners (specifically Rupinder)will have to be at the top of his game.

I would bet my money on them finishing 5th. Podium finish is too far fetched. Australia. Germany and Netherlands have booked the podium already.

I know and I agree from where you are coming from.Australia,Netherlands and Germany are definitely the favourites for the Podium but one off day(specially with the Quarter Final stage introduced) can spell the beans.Any thing can happen, all India needs to do is avoid Australia in the Quarter Final from the other group and from there on anything is possible.

Having only one Goalkeeper is flirting with disaster. It is a specialist job and one injury to Sreejesh will finish India hopes. I can see some goalkeeper on standby but I doubt whether they can include him in team once tournament starts.

Yes,thats what my point is,one goal keeper is keeping yourself on the edge.

This reminds me of 2006 Hockey World Cup. Only one specialist Penalty corner- Sandeep Singh was there. He got injured just before tournament - train bullet accident- and India finished 11th in the competition.

forget about injury..what if the goalkeeper gets a card and has to sit out for 5 minutes. Who is going to play that role then? What kind of thinking is this shit

Very valid point sourav.I also have not seen any team previously which has only has one Goal Keeper, that is why it concerned me and I shared it.

Reading in EiSamay bangla, Only athletes who have been able to qualify in individual events can run in Relay teams. Is this true?

Paper suggests that Tinku Luka will have to participate in 4*400 relay. How true is this report. That will mean a big loss for India.
