Today Ganashakti made a feature on tifos in Indian football. A Mohun Bagan fan club complained that they were barred from entering the ground with the tifos on the derby day. Any idea why this happened? (I had seen EB tifos during derby)
The report is that the club officials had asked the fans not bring any tifo or banner that was obscene/demeaning to some club or somebody. MB fans who had reportedly brought such tifos/banners were barred from entering the ground.
I don't get why outright (and preplanned) obscenity should be the way of expressing passion for one's side. I understand that some may swear by chance in a heated situation but why plan obscene tifos or banners? (Even EB did the same thing and I don't support that.)
It wasn't obscene; they had messages demanding a)transparency in club functioning; b)clarity on sponsors/investor; c)accountability of club the club jokers; d) questioning the selection of some white elephants who hasn't performed - and all these were a bitter pill for the jokers to swallow b'cos that could have been shown on TV - which they didn't want.
The Sponsors of Big western clubs get some mileage/advertisement space in foreign country where they announce tie-ups. In return small clubs might get some free air tickets to attend some meeting/training and also one or two few day trials which improve the transfer or pricing prospect of players.
With a projected investment of about 15 million euros, the club will be able to double their efforts in building their infrastructure in Chennai, which includes a potential stadium of their own, and a year-long grassroots programme spread all over the state of Tamil Nadu
